Purpose of Job: The Nursing Education Clinical Coordinator furthers Washington Adventist University’s mission and vision by being responsible for negotiating and arranging clinical experiences, which meet the educational requirements for students in all programs within the Nursing Department. The Coordinator is the responsible for maintaining a positive working relationship with the various clinical settings (hospitals, non-profit agencies, community health agencies, long-term care facilities, and nursing homes) across the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies, recruits and tours new clinical/practicum student placement sites.
- Collaborates with agencies as well as WAU administration, faculty and staff to maintain currency in all affiliation agreements.
- Assists the department chair in identifying potential clinical adjuncts.
- Has legal knowledge of affiliation agreements.
- Ensures all affiliation agreements and certificates of liability are current and up to date.
- Maintains a list of approved adjunct clinical faculty and preceptors by specialty.
- Identifies potential student learning experiences in a variety of clinical settings.
- Interacts with clinical agencies to plan for and schedule student group clinical rotations or individual senior clinical preceptor rotations.
- Evaluates a Conducts site visits to clinical locations on an annual basis.
- Attends required meetings at clinical affiliation agencies.
- Attends community professional meetings and occasional recruitment job fairs.
- Schedules and notifies students and clinical faculty regarding the clinical orientations for each student group and site each semester.
- Prepares student clinical orientation and appropriate documents for all students entering clinical year.
- Maintains clinical clearance records for students and clinical faculty and submits them to the clinical agencies, including CPR verification, health clearance, and background checks.
- Prepares clinical clearance permission letters for students and their advisors.
- Distributes to clinical faculty and preceptors the student and agency evaluation forms and supporting documentation.
- Maintains all files related to clinical assignments.
- Collaborates with site coordinators and clinical faculty.
- Schedules make-up clinical rotations for students as needed.
- Provides input into the evaluation process of clinical adjunct instructors/preceptors.
- Schedules and coordinates CPR recertification for students and faculty.
Minimum Requirements:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- RN license in Maryland.
- Minimum of two years clinical experience as a registered nurse.
- Current knowledge of nursing practice at the registered nurse level.
- Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
