Our faculty have outstanding academic credentials, know their fields inside and out, and have years of experience in the classroom. They love to teach and it shows. But just as important, WAU faculty care about each student’s academic and personal success and they do everything they can to help students to achieve their goals. 
 
Washington Adventist University is seeking candidates to expand its pool of adjunct faculty in the Department of Religion to teach day and evening courses. The department may have a need in the near future for adjunct faculty to teach applied music lessons in band and orchestra instruments. Applications will be reviewed periodically based on student enrollment needs. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not automatically accepted to teach at Washington Adventist University.  Decisions to hire applicants are made at the discretion of the department. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teaching courses in Theology or Religion curriculum, or General Education Religion curriculum
  • Participate in integrated and strategic pedagogical efforts to meet student learning outcomes, whether in BA in Theology program, BA in Religion program, General Education Religion curriculum, or regarding the university learning objectives
  • Occasionally assist religion department organizations
  • When asked, participation in assessment of student learning outcomes, whether in BA in Theology program, BA in Religion program, General Education Religion curriculum, or the university learning objectives;
  • Utilizing the instructional methodology required or requested by the University at the time of employment;
  • Mastering and using the learning management system utilized by the University at the time of employment;
  • Honoring the university academic timelines for midterm and final exams and submission of grades;
  • Timely communication with students and the chair of the Department of Religion (responding to communication within 24 hours).
  • Maintain appropriate record keeping for assigned classes and assessments as required by departmental guidelines
  • Mentor students in education and career goals
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master of Religion from an accredited institution in the specific applied area
  • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population of students
  • Prior university teaching experience or equivalent experience preferred
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the university’s philosophy, mission, and core values
