Provides leadership to the IT team, plans and implements the University's technology strategy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Manages ITS operations, maintenance, and security by establishing and maintaining policies and procedures; provides guidance to resolve technical problems; analyzes costs and recommending cost control measures; and develops budgets.
  • Manages ITS staff by interviewing, recommending new candidates for hiring, and training employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Determines information technology needs by identifying current and future trends; identifies user needs; explores new technologies; and develops relationships and communication among IT industry leaders.
  • Plans and direct implementation of the University's information systems by setting short- term and long-range goals; develops strategic and tactical plan; coordinates implementation of strategy; evaluates process; and initiates corrective actions.
  • Achieves financial objectives by maintaining cost centers; prepares an annual budget; schedules expenditures; analyzes variances; initiates corrective actions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviews professional publications; establishes personal networks; participates in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Supports and affirms a culture of distinctive excellence and exceptional service.
  • Attends university events and, required meetings (including weekly Convocation).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received:
  • Reports directly to the Chief of Institutional Effectiveness and Technology.

Supervision Given:
  • Direct supervision of the Senior Programmers, Programmer, Help Desk Manager, Systems Administrator, and Telecommunications Manager
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, recommending new employees for hire, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Must possess personal attributes that are in harmony with the philosophy and objectives of this organization. Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels and ages of employees and the public, provide leadership qualities and foster appropriate customer relations. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology required; Master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Five to seven years of experience in upper level management of information technology, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Significant experience collaborating with business leaders to develop and execute effective strategies to accomplish business objectives through the use of information technology.
  • Demonstrated leadership in IT operations, ERP management, service desk operations, networks and telecommunications, vendor management, and business continuity management.
  • Demonstrated ability to: relate to all levels of the user community, set and manage priorities, translate technical language and concepts to lay audiences; apply complex technologies to business strategies.
  • Proven skills in project management, negotiating with vendors, contractors and others.
Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
