The primary role of this position is the development and maintenance of programs to meet the needs of campus departments. This position is responsible for analyzing requests, developing solutions and recommending best practice processes. This position provides senior level expertise in the analysis of complex requests from university departments and in identifying resolutions to such problems.
  • Proactively work with the University's end-users to identify their system needs, project requirements, and design appropriate programs to meet those needs within the planned time-frame
  • Formulates project requirements by consulting with managerial and systems personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, suggest changes, and determine extent of programming and coding required.
  • Develops outline of requirements; using knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, programming language, and logic.
  • Encodes project requirements into one or many computer language(s) i.e. SQL, Datatel Rules, ColdFusion, Unibasic, Java, HTML etc.
  • Confirms program operation and compatibility by conducting tests; modifies program sequence and/or codes, confirming data accuracy though verifying individual data records and getting users to cross verify sample data.
  • Supervises user application support for Datatel ERP, associated Applications and older HP mainframe by responding to inquiries; collaborates with other programmers; and answers user inquiries.
  • Setup and maintain secure logon information for all ERP users.
  • Develops standards for terms and symbols used to simplify interpretation of programs.
  • Manages programming by establishing and maintaining policies and procedures; provides guidance to resolve technical problems; analyzes costs and recommends cost control measures.
Data Management:
  • Provides technical assistance by writing operating instructions; trains end users or technical support staff to use and support program; and responds to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with programs.
  • Prepares ITS reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains historical records by compiling documentation of program development and subsequent revisions.
  • Ensures data is secure from both internal and external attack and mistakes. Manages departmental requests for data from other departments. Maintain HIPAA and FERPA compliance.
  • Prepare reports for  Auditors and department to provide data needs to complete the WAU audits using SQL and Excel spreadsheets, including knowledge of pivot tables.
Systems Administration: 
  • Assists with system administration of various server systems; including backup process, security, data design and performance loads and email systems.\

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • BS or higher degree in a computer science field of study and 5 years Datatel  systems administration experience, with proficiency in SQL/ColdFusion Data Base mining, preferably in a higher education setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
