POSITION SUMMARY
 
Under the direct supervision and assignments given by the Dean of Women, this position is responsible for assisting with the day to day management of Halcyon Hall (the women’s residence hall). The Assistant Dean will assist with housing operations processes including room inventories, key management, housing changes, hall openings/closings, and room selection.  The Assistant Dean is also responsible for building a sense of community among the first year students.  The Assistant Dean and the Dean of Women share responsibility for ensuring 24/7 administrative coverage of the residence hall.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides opportunity for student growth by counseling residents in identifying and resolving personal, social, academic or disciplinary issues; refers residents to outside support services or treatment as needed.
  • Protects residence hall and residents by enforcing sanitation, safety, and substance abuse policies; complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements.
  • Assists in orientation process by planning, conducting, and evaluating orientation programs for new residents.
  • Maintains equipment and furnishings by completing preventative maintenance requirements; follows manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoots malfunctions; calls for repairs as needed.
  • Resolves resident dissatisfaction by investigating complaints and concerns; collecting and analyzing information; mediating or arbitrating discussions; evaluating possible courses of action; providing advice, guidance, and direction.
  • Maintains student confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Provides historical reference by maintaining and utilizing filing and retrieval systems; maintains resident database.
  • Represents Women’s residence hall by serving on committees as assigned.
  • Performs related and other departmental duties as required.
  • Supports and affirms a culture of distinctive excellence and exceptional service.
  • Attends University events and, required meetings (including weekly Convocation)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university
  • 1-3 years of residence life related experience
  • Availability to work during night and weekend hours
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional presentation and public speech ability.
  • Conversational Spanish as 2nd language helpful, but not required.
  • Functional knowledge and application of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must exhibit leadership skills
  • Demonstrated capacity for planning, organizing and controlling
  • Advanced skills in team building, motivation, and conflict resolution, crisis response
