Location:        Takoma Park, MD—On-site/In-office.  NOTE: This position is not eligible for any type of regular remote or teleworking arrangement.

SUMMARY:  The Sports Information Director is responsible for leading the University’s sports information and athletic communications functions. This role requires a regular on-campus presence and close collaboration with the Athletic Director, coaching staff, student-athletes, and University partners to support competitive excellence and institutional visibility.
This is a part-time position with variable hours based on athletic seasons, competition schedules, and University needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Focus: Athletics communications, media relations, and digital content for assigned sports programs.
  • Direct and manage sports information operations for assigned and priority sports, aligned with the academic calendar and competitive seasons.
  • Serve as the primary media contact for assigned sports; coordinate correspondence with media, competing institutions, officials, and conference/NAIA partners.
  • Write, edit, and distribute athletics communications materials, including press releases, game recaps, feature stories, and digital content.
  • Maintain and update the WAU Athletics website (wauathletics.com) for assigned sports and ensure accuracy of schedules, rosters, and statistics.
  • Oversee and train student workers and statisticians to support game-day operations and statistical reporting.
  • Manage athletics social media content in coordination with the Office of Integrated Marketing and Communications.
  • Coordinate graphics and video content using Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, or similar tools, leveraging shared departmental resources where available.

Other Duties
  • Represent WAU Athletics at meetings, events, and conferences as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in collegiate athletics, coaching, sports information, or a related field.
  • Experience with athletics communications, media relations, and digital platforms preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS
  • This position requires regular on-campus presence during core business hours, with flexibility to adjust schedules around practices, competitions, and travel.
  • Evening, weekend, and travel commitments occur primarily during the competitive season and are balanced through schedule adjustments during non-competition periods.
  • The work environment includes office and athletic facilities with a moderate noise level.
